Fields

What you can pull from Google Ads

Google Ads reporting is hierarchical, so the first thing a report picks is the level it reads at. That choice decides which fields are available: keyword fields exist at the keyword level, ad fields at the ad level, and one report reads at one level.

Account

Clicks, Impressions, Cost, Conversions, All conversions

Campaign

Clicks, Impressions, Cost, Conversions, Campaign status

Ad group

Clicks, Impressions, Cost, Conversions

Ad

Clicks, Impressions, Cost, Conversions, Ad status

Keyword

Clicks, Impressions, Cost, Conversions, First page CPC, First position CPC, Keyword status

Fields you cannot remove

The columns above arrive selected and locked. They are Google's Required Minimum Functionality set for each level: the figures that stop a report reading better than the account actually performed. Every Google Ads tool has to include them. You add whatever else you need on top.

Worth knowing before you build on it

Conversions arrives as a total

There is no conversion-action dimension to split it by, so a report cannot break conversions out into the actions you have named in Google Ads.

Performance Max reports at account and campaign level only

There are no ad group, ad or keyword rows beneath it, so a report set to those levels returns nothing for PMax campaigns.

One report reads one account

A manager account lists every client account directly beneath it, though not ones sitting under a second manager below that.

Any report can be filtered: up to five conditions, all of which have to match, on any dimension in your report. No regular expressions.

  • Each report owns a tab, and everything in it is replaced on every refresh. Nothing else in the spreadsheet is touched.
  • It runs whether the spreadsheet is open or not. Refreshes happen on our servers, so the numbers are current when you open the file, not when you remember to.
  • Every run refetches the last seven days. Conversions backfill for days after the click, so yesterday's figure is not final. Re-reading the trailing week means the tab corrects itself instead of freezing whatever was true at 6am.
Setting it up

Three things to choose, once

  1. 01Connect the account and pick which one to read from.
  2. 02Choose the level to report at, then the fields. Google's required columns are already selected and locked.
  3. 03Say which tab it writes to and how often it refreshes.
Access

What it can see, and what it cannot

Google Ads offers no read-only permission: adwords is the only scope Google publishes for its API, and it has no read-only variant. So our access there is registered with Google for reporting only, and our code never issues a write: Fresh Sheets never creates, edits, pauses or deletes a campaign, ad, bid or budget.

Every connector Fresh Sheets ships is read-only, permanently. That is a design decision rather than a current limitation, and it is set out in our privacy policy.

Writing happens only in the spreadsheets you pick, one at a time, through Google's own file picker. Fresh Sheets never sees the rest of your Drive. Fresh Sheets never changes anything you did not ask it to.

Your data is never sold and never used to train anything, and you can disconnect the account at any time.

Fresh Sheets asks for all of its data permissions in one consent screen, so you will see Google Analytics and Search Console listed there even if you only connect Google Ads. Every scope is set out in full on our privacy page.

FAQ

Questions

Can you export Google Ads data to Google Sheets?

Yes. Google Ads' own download creates a new file each time, and its scheduled reports arrive as email attachments. Fresh Sheets writes into the spreadsheet you already have, in a tab you choose, on a schedule.

How do I automate a daily Google Ads report in Sheets?

Pick the account, the level and the fields, say which tab it lands in, then choose how often it refreshes. It runs on our servers from then on. How often depends on your plan: every day on Plus, every 6 hours on Pro and every hour on Max.

Can I split conversions by conversion action?

Not yet. Conversions and All conversions arrive as totals, because the connector offers no conversion-action dimension to break them down by. If you report on named conversion actions separately, this is the thing to check before you build around it.

Does it work with Performance Max campaigns?

Partly. Performance Max returns rows at account and campaign level and nothing below, so a report set to ad group, ad or keyword level will come back empty for those campaigns. Report on PMax at campaign level.

Can I pull from more than one Google Ads account?

Yes, one account per report, and several reports can write into different tabs of the same spreadsheet. A manager account lists every client account directly beneath it, though not ones sitting under a second manager below that.

Does it change anything in my Google Ads account?

No. Fresh Sheets only ever reads. It never creates, edits, pauses or deletes a campaign, ad, bid or budget, and our access is registered with Google for reporting only.
